Rebecca Jefferson, curator of the Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica and joint faculty member of the University of Florida’s Center for Jewish Studies, has been named to the Task Force on Holocaust Education by Richard Corcoran, commissioner of education for the Florida Department of Education.

Margarita Vargas-Betancourt, associate librarian and Latin American and Caribbean special collections librarian at the University of Florida, has been named one of 15 RBS-Mellon Cultural Heritage Fellows for 2020–22. Vargas-Betancourt coordinates the processing of Latin American manuscripts and serves as a liaison to faculty and students.

Appointments

Shawn P. Calhoun has been named acting library dean at the University of San Francisco’s (USF) Gleeson Library | Geschke Learning Resource Center. Calhoun has served in various capacities at USF’s Gleeson Library for nearly 18 years and has held a number of campus leadership roles, including chair of USF’s Council of Associate Deans and a member of USF’s reaffirmation of accreditation team. Calhoun will continue to serve as associate for Public Services.

Tyrone H. Cannon, dean of the University of San Francisco’s (USF) Gleeson Library | Geschke Learning Resource Center, has been appointed USF interim provost and vice president of academic affairs. In his nearly 25 years as dean at USF, Cannon has not only led the libraries, he has also served in a variety of academic leadership roles, including as a member of the President’s Leadership Team, Provost Council, and Council of Deans.

Suzanna Conrad has been named dean of university libraries at Towson University. Conrad was associate dean for digital technologies and resource management in the University Library at Sacramento State University, where she provided leadership for systems, collections management, and scholarly communication.

Martin Garnar is now director of the Amherst College Library.

Dallas Long is now dean of Milner Library at Illinois State University. He joined Milner Library in 2008 as the head of access services and later served as the associate dean for information assets.

Matt Shoemaker has been appointed head of the Loretta C. Duckworth Scholars Studio at the Temple University Libraries.

Natalie Bennett has joined the Auburn University Libraries as the electronic resources and discovery librarian.

Jacob Brintzenhoff has been named medical librarian at Temple University Libraries’ Krausz Library of Podiatric Medicine.

Milan Budhathoki has been appointed the new GIS librarian at the University of Maryland Libraries.

Jasmine Clark has been named digital scholarship librarian at the Temple University Libraries.

Mallory Jallas is now student success librarian at Illinois State University.

Emily Jones has been named health sciences librarian at the Health Sciences Library at the University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill.

Heather Koopsman has been named fine arts librarian at Illinois State University.

Kent LaCombe has been appointed applied sciences librarian at Illinois State University.

Sarah K. Myers is now public services librarian at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. She is also manager of the campus’s institutional repository.

Nicholas Perilli has been named innovation librarian at the Temple University Libraries’ Ginsburg Health Sciences Library.

Allison Rand has been appointed instructional design librarian at Illinois State University.

Rachel E. Scott has been named associate dean for information assets at Illinois State University.

Lindsey Skaggs is now instructional design librarian at Illinois State University.

Caitlin Stewart has been appointed teaching and learning librarian and coordinator of the teaching materials center at Illinois State University.

Stacy Torian has been named health sciences librarian in the Health Sciences Library at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill University Libraries.

Retirements

Karen Burstein has retired after 35 years as librarian at Temple University Libraries’ Health Sciences Libraries.

Julie Derden has retired as teaching and learning librarian and coordinator of the Teaching Materials Center at Illinois State University.

Rod Henshaw has retired from library service at Drake University, in Des Moines, Iowa, after a 45-year professional library career. Serving as dean of Cowles Library from 1996 to 2018, Henshaw oversaw significant growth and development of the library. Prior to Drake, he served at Iowa State University, Penn State, and Emory University libraries. He maintained an active role in ALA, including LAMA and ACRL. In Iowa, he served as president of the Iowa Private Academic Libraries and was a founder and chair of the Iowa Academic Library Alliance. During his time at Drake, he oversaw extensive renovations of the library, including the construction of a state-of-the-art archives and special collections center. The library acquired the papers of former Iowa Senator Harkin, developed an Iowa Caucus collection, and hosted collections from Henshaw, including an extensive collection of Ray Bradbury and science fiction first editions, and a collection of books and memorabilia related to Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes.

Kathleen Lonbom has retired as arts, theatre, and dance librarian at Illinois State University.

Scott P. Muir has retired from the Rowan University Libraries as associate provost for library information services (July 2013-July 2020), where he led the transformation of the organization into a digital research library. Over his more than 40-year career, Muir also worked in libraries at Arizona State University, Eastern Michigan University, Boston College, University of Alabama, and the Georgia Power Company. He also held several positions at the Detroit Library Area Network.

Shari Zeck retired as interim dean of Milner Library at Illinois State University on June 30 after 23 years at the university, where she started as a faculty member teaching film studies before serving in administrative positions at the College of Fine Arts and Milner Library.
