Appointments
Thomas R. Caswell has been appointed associate dean at the University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library.
Andrew Hart has been named MacDonald Director of Preservation at Penn State Libraries. Hart is currently the head of the preservation department at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he has served for more than 20 years. In that role, Hart oversees needs assessment, general collections conservation, preservation reformatting, commercial binding, shelf-preparation, disaster preparedness, education, and outreach. He also collaborated with peers to build and manage a digital preservation program. His professional service includes roles on boards and committees at the ALA Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, the ALA/ALCTS Preservation and Reformatting Section, the Academic Preservation Trust, the Association of Research Libraries, the Council on Library and Information Resources, and HathiTrust, among others. Hart’s work has been published in the Microform & Imaging Review, International Preservation News, and Abbey Newsletter, and he has been honored with awards from ALCTS. He will assume his new post June 1.
Jennifer L. Murray is now associate dean at the University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library.
Devin Savage has been named dean of libraries for the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Savage served previously in a variety of management and leadership roles, most recently as the interim dean of libraries. Prior to his work at IIT, Savage also served in a variety of roles in his 15 years at Northwestern University Library, including assessment librarian. Among his other current professional commitments, Savage currently serves as the vice-chair of the ACRL Academic Library Statistics and Trends Editorial Board.
K. T. Vaughan has been appointed university librarian at Washington & Lee University Library, effective June 1, 2020. Vaughan has most recently been at James Madison University (JMU) since 2013, first as the director of Rose Library and then as associate dean. Before JMU, she was the pharmacy librarian at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Health Sciences Library for ten years and served as a Libraries Fellow at North Carolina State University (2001–02).
Carrie Cullen has been appointed research librarian for physical sciences at the University of California-Irvine Libraries.
Samuel Lemley is the new special collections curator at the Carnegie Mellon University Libraries.
Joelle Pitts has been appointed associate dean of administration, planning, and assessment at the Carnegie Mellon University Libraries.
Kristen Weischedel is now digital resources management librarian for the Paul V. Galvin Library at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
