This month’s cover features Kermit King midair during Intercollegiate Broad Jump event at the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, stadium in 1937. The photograph comes from the King, Kermit C. (1909– ), Collection, 1925–1975, held by the Special Collections & University Archives at Pittsburg State University (PSU), located in Pittsburg, Kansas.
The collection documents the life and career of King, a PSU alumnus, who became national AAU and NCAA broad-jump champion in spring 1937 and toured Asia as a member of the All-American track and field team. Following his time at PSU, King went on to work for the U.S. State Department and serve as the president of the Liberian National University in the 1950s.
