Deadlines:Orders for regular classified advertisements must reach the ACRL office on or before the second of the month preceding publication of the issue (e.g., September 2 for the October issue). Rates:Classified advertisements are $9.00 per line for institutions that are ACRL members, $11.00 for others. ACADEMIC PUBLIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN. Florida Gulf Coast University. Librarian wanted to contribute to an innovative, team- centered, dynamic environment on Florida’s Gulf Coast. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR PUBLIC SERVICES.University of Wisconsin—Parkside. The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Information Services (IS) and supervises the services of the Library/Learning Center’s Public Services Division with five professional librarians and five support staff. Division responsibilities include circulation, reference, instruction, interlibrary loan, and the Archives and Area Research Center. The successful candidate will also serve on the IS management team, provide reference service to users, act as liaison to faculty for purposes of bibliographic instruction and collection development, and participate in outreach programs. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR NETWORK SERVICES LIBRARIAN. University of Alaska Southeast. Required: Earned MLS from an ALA-accredited institution. Minimum of two courses each in automated library systems, cataloging and in reference. Evidence of most current knowledge and trends in library automation and ongoing continuing education in technology as it applies to library services. In-depth knowledge of and demonstrated experience with integrated library systems, networking, and telecommunications as they relate to delivery of library services. ASSOCIATE DEAN OF LIBRARIES. Loyola University Chicago Libraries seeks an Associate Dean to serve as deputy to the Dean of Libraries. The Associate Dean will supervise two assistant deans (Information Service/Collection Development and Bibliographic and Access Services) and will participate in the overall management of the Loyola Library system. She/he will play an important role in the formulation of goals, policies, and strategies for the library system and will hold primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of Cudahy Library, the largest library in the system. Other responsibilities include budget, personnel management, and working closely with the Head of Library Systems to select and implement automated systems including a second-generation library management system which has yet to be selected. The ideal candidate will have an ALA- accredited MLS and 8 years of successful management experience in both technical and public services, excellent knowledge of auto- mated systems and electronic information delivery, and a track record of excellence in personnel, budget, and project management. Evidence of innovation and creativity are required as well as a record of significant contributions to the profession. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. The Loyola Library system consists of five libraries in the Chicago area one in Rome, Italy. All libraries except the Law Library report to the Dean of Libraries. CATALOGING LIBRARIAN.The Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine of the Harvard Medical Library and the Boston Medical Library is recruiting a catalog librarian. The Countway serves the teaching and research faculty, staff, and students of the Harvard schools of medicine, dental medicine, and public health. Responsibilities: Directs original and copy cataloging, database maintenance of bibliographic records, online authority control, and materials processing. Supervises one professional, two non-exempt staff, and temporary project staff. Serves as principal cataloger, interpreting and developing procedures and policies for bibliographic access for library materials including rare books, serials, and electronic resources. CHIEF LIBRARIAN. The Wolfsonian-Florida International University,a museum and research center in Miami Beach, Florida, seeks chief librarian to oversee all operations associated with collection of approximately 40,000 rare books, periodicals, and ephemera from 1885-1945. Demonstrating how art and design have shaped the modern world, this extraordinary collection revolves around themes of design history, political propaganda, romantic nationalism, labor, transportation, advertising, and world’s fairs and expositions. Responsibilities include supervision of two full-time associate librarians and hourly support staff; implementation of digital and other new technologies; oversight of cataloguing, storage, conservation, and acquisition operations; support of research by fellows and other scholars; collaboration with FlU’s central library; and input on library fund-raising. COORDINATOR OF COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND ACQUISITIONS. Assistant professor. AA#03-7-148. This faculty member coordinates the work of the Subject Specialists in the selection of print, electronic, and audiovisual resources for a university library supporting 7,400 students and 400 faculty. The coordinator provides leadership in the development of the library’s collections and maintains liaison with the academic departments. This librarian is also responsible for coordinating the Acquisitions unit. Requirements for the position include an ALA-accredited master’s degree and a second master’s or doctorate; a minimum of four years professional experience in the selection of resources, preferably in a university, college, or research library, or extensive experience in the library book trade; and experience in an automated library acquisitions environment. DIRECTOR, FLOWER-SPRECHER VETERINARY LIBRARY AND LEARNING RESOURCES CENTER.Cornell University Library. The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a talented and dynamic Director for its Flower-Sprecher Veterinary Library, one of the largest academic libraries of its kind in the nation. The Flower- Sprecher Library serves the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine, which has approximately 320 DVM students, 120 MS/PhD graduate students, 140 faculty, and 750 technicians and other support personnel. One of 27 veterinary colleges in the U.S. and one of only 3 in the Northeast, Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine is known for its progressive, problem-based academic program and world-class resources. These include a comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center (opened in 1996) and a Veterinary Education Center (opened in 1993) that houses the library plus teaching laboratories and lecture halls. The College of Veterinary Medicine, comprising five main buildings on 15 acres, is located on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York. The Flower-Sprecher library is one of 19 units in the Cornell University Library. The Cornell University Library is well known for the quality of its overall collection and for its pioneering work in preservation and digital library research and development. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Associate University Librarian for Life Sciences, the Director provides administrative leadership for the library, which has a collection of approximately 90,000 volumes, 850 serial subscriptions, 1,400 audiovisual titles, an annual budget of $550,000, and a staff of 6.5 FTE. Duties include: effectively manage the financial and human resources of the library as well as the physical facilities; foster innovation in information management and effectively integrate electronic resources and services into the library; cultivate support for the library by serving as liaison to users and colleagues and participate in fund development activities; supervise and participate in public and technical services work as well as collection development and preservation activities; represent the library at local, regional, and national organizations, and participate actively in Cornell University Library’s committees, research projects, and professional development activities. ELECTRONIC RESOURCES/SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN. Western Washington Universityseeks an Electronic Resources/Systems Librarian for a tenure-track position, with appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, to coordinate the development, implementation, enhancement, and assessment of library electronic resources and systems. Located between Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia, the University, with a student population over 10,000, is organized into six undergraduate colleges and a graduate school. Required qualifications: an ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS, or the foreign equivalent; professional experience with: integrated library systems, electronic resources, information systems, Web design and advanced applications. Desirable qualifications include: an advanced or undergraduate degree in Computer Science; 2+ years in an academic library; knowledge of Java/C++ programming languages, Novell, and/or NT networks, and Innovative Interfaces library systems.
