Developed to help CIC library administrators evaluate some of the issues involved in mass deacidification, the report contains information which might be useful to others. CENTRO begins assessment project
The Central New York Library Resources Council (CENTRO) began a grant-funded project in August to conduct preservation needs assess- ment surveys in ten Central New York institu- tions. The surveys will take four months and rely heavily on the use of CALIPR, an auto- mated assessment software program. The software will permit institutions without sophisticated pres- ervation expertise to de- velop realistic preservation plans based on local needs and resources. Barclay Ogden, head of the Conser- vation Department at the University of California at Berkeley, will act as project consultant and Martha Hanson, head of the Con- servation Department at Syracuse University, will pro- vide additional expertise.
The ten participating institutions represent various types of libraries or archives and the survey results are expected to provide valu- able data on the preservation needs of cen- tral New York. For more information contact: Jeannette Smithee, Project Manager, Central New York Preservation Needs Assessment Project at (315) 478-6080 or CENTRO@ vax.cs.hscsyr.edu.
