Cover Page
This month’s cover image features naturalist Russell W. Hendee, on his travels with museum curator Alfred M. Bailey to Arctic Alaska to collect specimens for the Denver Museum of Natural History. Another member of Hendee and Bailey’s team was an Airedale named Jerry. This unique dog made a contribution to their field work by his retrievals in the frigid waters and as a sled dog. Bailey’s field notes indicate that during this expedition temperatures reached 42 degrees below zero. This image is part of the Alfred M. Bailey Collection at the Bailey Library and Archives at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The collection contains images and field notes from Bailey’s field collecting trip for the museum from 1921 to 1922. Visit the Denver Museum of Nature and Science online at www.DMNS.org.
