This illustration depicting the siege of Bexar -today's San Antonio--is from a mid-19th-century book among the holdings of the Texas State Archives. During the siege, in 1835, "Texian" forces successfully expelled Mexican troops from San Antonio; three months later, Mexican forces retook the city in the celebrated siege of the Alamo. The Texas State Archives holdings include millions of official Texas government records from the Spanish colonial era through the present day, as well as books and journals, manuscripts, maps, photographs and other visual resources, and artifacts. The Archives, along with other collections of state and federal documents, family history materials, and reference items, are administered by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
