Pictured is "Gigantic Sycamores at Owl Creek, Ohio," by British watercolorist George Harvey (1800--1878), rendered in hand-colored aquatint by American engraver William James Bennett (1789-1844). This engraving was one of four illustrations of the seasons published in Harvey's Scenes of the Primitive Forest of America in 1841. It was featured in an exhibition at the Boston Athemeum in 1994 entitled "Fifty Books in the Collection of the Boston Athenaeum," and reproduced in a catalog of the same name. The four original watercolors of the seasons were exhibited at the Athen;:eum Gallery in 1844. The Boston Athenaeum, founded in 1807, is one of the oldest research libraries in the U.S.
