Arne Nixon (1927-1997) spent a lifetime loving and collecting children's booksbooks like Charlotte's Web and Th.e 500 Hats of Bartholomew Gubbins. Before his death, the legendary education professor gave his collection-more than 20,000 volumes-to the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno.

Hundreds of first editions, signed volumes, and prize-winning stories and illustrations will become the nucleus of the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children's Literature. The collection is one of the finest west of the Mississippi. See page 38 for more on the Center.
