This is a section of the map "Potential natural vegetation," 1966, by A.W. Kuchler, from the Kuchler Map Collection, Miami University, Ox­ford, OH. A widely recognized authority on vegetation mapping, Dr. Kuchler has amassed a personal collection of vegetation maps from around the world. The Kuchler Map Collec­tion encompasses nearly 2,000 vegetation maps and 500 books. The collection also in­cludes non-vegetation maps on topics such as geology, soils, ocean currents, and land use. The historical scope of the materials in this collection illustrates the development of cur­rent concerns such as deforestation, urbaniza­tion, desertification, and the destruction of world ecosystems. The materials in the col­lection can be accessed through SHERLOCK, the Miami University Libraries' online catalog available through Internet, OCLC, and the re­cently implemented OhioLINK system.
