This is one of several 1984 Olympic Games posters by Los Angeles artist Ernie Barnes, which he did for the Artist's Series commissioned by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee (LAOOC). The work captures the diversity of Los Angeles neighborhoods in the shadow of one of the principal venues of the 1984 games: the Los Angeles Coliseum, which was built for the 1932 Olympic Games. The records of the LAOOC are housed in the Department of Special Collections in the University Research Library at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The department holds more than 350,000 rare books, 30 million manuscripts and archival collections, 4 million photographs, and half a million prints and drawings. Those attending ALA's Midwinter Meeting in L.A. are invited to visit this and other departments at the libraries of UCLA.
