The San Francisco Feny Building is reproduced from a woodcut by Mallette Dean, housed in the Donohue Rare Book Room in the Gleeson Library/Geschke Center at the University of San Francisco. Mallette Dean (1907-75) was an illustrator and printer who collaborated with several Bay Area presses. The historic Ferry Building, located at the foot of Market Street, was built in 1898 and served as the principle gateway to San Francisco from the east until the completion of the Bay Bridge in 1936. It continues to serve as a landmark in the revitalization of San Francisco's Embarcadero.
