This woodcut is one of many illustrating Kaladlit Okalluktualliait, a four-volume set of Eskimo legends issued in Greenland between 1859 and 1863. The first volume of this set, which was the first book to be printed in Greenland, was also the first book acquired by Tozzer Library, the anthropology research library of Harvard University and one of the world's foremost anthropology libraries. Tozzer Library, formerly known as the Peabody Museum Library, dates from the 1866 founding of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University. The library collects in all subfields of anthropology, with special emphasis on the indigenous cultures of the Americas.
