This month’s cover features an image of students at the Allen School from The Allen School Records, part of Appalachian State University’s W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection. The Allen School (1887–1974) was a private African American girls’ boarding school in Asheville, North Carolina. The Allen High School Records, 1899-2008, includes photographs, annuals, brochures, correspondence, and other materials relating to The Allen School. Among the school’s prominent graduates is the late singer/songwriter Nina Simone.
