Cover Page

This month’s cover features one of 49 Japanese public health posters held at the University of Minnesota Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine that give advice about how to keep well and stay well during a measles epidemic in the mid-19th century. These posters (or hashika-e) were guides to practices most likely to lessen the symptoms of the disease. Themes such as nutrition and hygiene run through the posters. See the entire collection at z.umn.edu/measlesposters.
