Appointments

Mohammed Abdul Shaheed Khan has been appointed library director at Spangdahlem U.S. Air Base in Germany. Khan has held positions as chief librarian at U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School in Columbia, South Carolina, and at the U.S. Air Base in South Korea. He was also librarian at U.S. Army Allen Library in Fort Polk, Louisiana, as well as librarian at Sheppard Air Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. Khan was senior information specialist at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and has served as lecturer/librarian at the King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and he was expert librarian at the University of Sulimaniyah in Iraq.

Haipeng Li has been appointed university librarian at Hong Kong Baptist University in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Adriene Lim has been appointed dean of the library at Oakland University.

Alexis Braun Marks has accepted a tenure track position as university archivist at Eastern Michigan University’s Bruce T. Halle Library.

Helen I. Reed has been named dean of university libraries at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Reed, who served as interim dean for the past 15 months while a national search was conducted, has 35 years of experience in university library administration, including 20 years as an associate dean of UNC’s libraries. Before that she worked in libraries at Duke University and Northwestern University.

Ann M. Watson has been appointed dean of the Scarborough Library at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Sara Arnold-Garza has joined the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University for a two-year appointment as residency librarian.

Femi Cadmus is the new Edward Cornell Law librarian and associate dean for library services at the Cornell University Library.

Karen Calhoun has joined the University of Pittsburgh Library System as assistant university librarian for organizational development and strategic initiatives.

Felix Chu is now the interim associate dean for library operations at Western Illinois University Libraries.

Matthew Cook has been appointed head of public services and outreach at the John Spoor Broome Library at California State University-Channel Islands.

Carrie Daniels has been named director of the University Archives and Records Center and university archivist at the University of Louisville Libraries.

Jason Ezell has joined the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University as distance learning and resource sharing librarian.

Daniel B. Fitzroy is now systems and electronic resources librarian at Henderson State University’s Huie Library in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

Randy Gue has been named to two positions in the Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (MARBL) at Emory University Libraries: curator of modern political and historical collections and instruction specialist for primary source materials.

Korey Jackson has accepted a position as a Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) postdoctoral fellow working in the Publishing Services and Outreach division of MPublishing at the University of Michigan Library.

Jennifer Jarvis has joined Columbia University Libraries as Mellon conservator for special collections.

Scott Mandernack is now associate dean for scholarly resources and collections at Marquette University Libraries.

Amanda Rinehart has been appointed e-science librarian at Brown University Library.

Joe Salem has been appointed head of research and learning services at the University of Akron University Libraries, in Akron, Ohio.

Rebecca Sestili has accepted the position of author-publisher liaison in MPublishing at the University of Michigan Library.

Shannon R. Simpson has accepted a position as the art and special collections librarian at Towson University’s Albert S. Cook Library.

Carissa Tomlinson has accepted a position as first-year experience librarian at the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University.

Rebecca Welzenbach is the new text creation partnership outreach librarian in MPublishing at the University of Michigan Library.

Retirements

Peggy Johnson has retired after 34 years at the University of Minnesota Libraries, most recently serving as associate university librarian. She also held librarian positions at the University of Iowa and the St. Paul Public Library. In 1998, Johnson cofounded the biannual University of Minnesota Institute for Early Career Librarians Underrepresented in the Profession. She has written and edited numerous books, most recently Fundamentals of Collection Development and Management (2nd ed.), and authored more than 20 book chapters and journal articles. She currently edits the journals Library Resources & Technical Services and Technicalities. Johnson has consulted on library development in Rwanda, Uganda, Senegal, Morocco, and China. She served as president of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (1999/2000) and is the recipient of the 2009 ALCTS Ross Atkinson Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2005 ALCTS Blackwell’s Scholarship Award.

Priscilla Matthews has retired from Illinois State University Milner Library after 33 years of service. Matthews served in a number of roles, including science/social sciences monographic catalog librarian, serials catalog librarian, monographic and maintenance cataloging librarian, cataloging and records management division head, and finally senior cataloging librarian.

Jacqueline Mirabile, a librarian at Falvey Memorial Library, Villanova University, since 1982, retired at the end of May. Mirabile graduated from Trinity College, Burlington, Vermont, with a major in history and a minor in mathematics. She earned a master’s degree in library science from Simmons College. Mirabile spent nine years at the Free Library of Philadelphia and several more years at a regional patent company before coming to Villanova University. At Falvey, Mirabile was a reference librarian who taught research strategy sessions in a variety of disciplines. In early 2009 she was selected to lead the new Information and Research Assistance team. As team leader she supervised the research support librarians and library information specialists.

Kay Weir has retired after of 22 years as the business librarian at Illinois State University Milner Library.
