Appointments

Carl Antonucci is now director of library services at Central Connecticut State University.

Mohamed Abou El Seoud has been appointed Middle Eastern/African Studies librarian at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Zachary M. Baker was appointed assistant university librarian for collection development (Humanities and Social Sciences) in the Stanford University Libraries.

Marci Brandenburg has joined the Taubman Health Sciences Library at the University of Michigan as the bioinformationist.

Emily Campbell is now the special projects librarian in technical services at the University of Michigan.

Scott Curtis is now research and instruction librarian for Science and Engineering at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, University Libraries.

William Marino has accepted a tenure-track position as the online learning librarian at Eastern Michigan University.

Lisa Martin has been appointed reference librarian/bibliographer responsible for business and government documents portfolios at the University of North Dakota’s Chester Fritz Library.

Norah Mazel has joined the Kraemer Family Library at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs as instructor and reference, instruction, and collection development librarian.

Darlene Nichols is now lead librarian for diversity programs and initiatives, Office of the Dean, at University of Michigan.

Patricia Presti has been appointed head of learning and curriculum support at the University of Guelph Library in Guelph, Ontario.

Robin Chin Roemer has been appointed assistant librarian for the School of Communication at the American University Library in Washington, D.C.

Karen Rogers-Collins has accepted a tenure-track position as electronic resources and serials librarian at Eastern Michigan University.

Danielle Rowland has been appointed reference and instruction librarian/first-year experience coordinator at the University of Washington-Seattle.

Todd Shipman is now education librarian at Auburn University Libraries.

Judy Smith has joined the Taubman Health Sciences Library at the University of Michigan as the liaison librarian to the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC), a dedicated site for the university’s academic and private-sector research.

Kathleen Stroud has been appointed the David and Nancy Petrone Map/GIS librarian at the University of Oregon Eugene Libraries.

Marie Thompson is now dental librarian at the University of Missouri-Kansas City University Libraries.

David Uspal has joined Villanova University’s Falvey Memorial Library as a Web specialist for library and scholarly applications.

Timothy Utter is now access and information services librarian in the maps, government information, and data services department at the University of Michigan.

Tara Wink has been appointed temporary special collections librarian at the West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

Yue (Julie) Xu has been named Web services librarian at the University of Memphis.

Kristen Young is the new liaison services librarian in the Taubman Health Sciences Libraries at the University of Michigan Library.

Retirements

Susan Anthes has retired from her position as senior instructor and associate director for the University of Colorado-Boulder Libraries Public Services Division and was appointed senior instructor emeritus.

Tom Carter will retire January 2011 as dean for academic resources and library director at Saint Mary’s College of California, after ten years of service and 36 years in the profession. Carter began his career at the University of the Pacific in 1974, and served at San Jose State University (1976–80), Loyola Marymount University (1980–94), and Gonzaga University (1994–2000). He has held leadership roles in the California chapter of ACRL, the California Academic and Research Librarians (including president of the chapter in 1987), and in ALA, including the ACRL BIS Emerging Technologies in Instruction Committee, an ACRL Preconference Planning Committee (1999–2001), and the LAMA-LOMS Financial Management Committee.

Carol Krismann retired from her position as senior instructor and faculty director of the University of Colorado-Boulder Business Library and was appointed senior instructor emeritus.

Deaths

Frank Turner, 66, recently appointed university librarian, professor of 19th-century European history and former university provost at Yale University, has died. Turner was named university librarian in September after serving as interim university librarian since January 2010. He continued to serve as director of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Turner served as director for seven years, and previously served as provost between 1988 and 1992. Turner doubled the number of classes taught in the Beinecke and pioneered a digitization project to make Beinecke materials available online. Turner began teaching at Yale full time in 1971, and received the Yale College Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching for his work teaching European history. Turner was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1983 and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is the author of four academic books and more than 25 scholarly articles.
