to catalog the book Slavery at Sea by Sowande’ M. Mustakeem.1 Published in 2009, the
text examines the history of the Middle Passage—the forced voyage of enslaved Africans
from West and Central Africa to the Americas beginning in the sixteenth century until
the abolition of slavery
