Diane M. Rodriguez is now president of the American Association of Law Libraries (2021-22). Rodriguez is currently assistant director of the San Francisco Law Library in California.

Maria Cunningham has been named director of special collections at the Oregon Health & Science University Library in Portland, Oregon.

Katherine Fisher became the new head of digital archives at Emory University’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, where she will help acquire, preserve, and provide access to digital content and provide leadership and strategic direction around the management and planning of the digital collections.

Irene Herold has been appointed dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries and university librarian. Herold’s career spans nearly 30 years and includes leadership roles at several university libraries and professional organizations, including serving as past president of ACRL. Herold is the author of two books, Leading Together: Academic Library Consortia and Advocacy and Creating Leaders: An Examination of Academic and Research Libraries Leadership Institutes, as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters on academic libraries and library leadership. Herold previously served as university librarian at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, dean of Mason Library at Keene State College, director of the Anne Bridge Baddour Library at Daniel Webster College, and public services librarian at Monmouth College.

Pam Werre was appointed interim executive director of library services at Minnesota State University-Moorhead (MSUM) and is currently serving the second year of a two-year term. Werre’s first position at the MSUM Library was as the public services librarian (2000). In 2014, she became the curriculum materials center librarian and then began service as interim director in July 2020. Werre was formerly reference and Internet services librarian in Milner Library at Illinois State University for seven years (1993–2000).Werre has served on a number of ALA committees including ALSC’s Mildred L. Batchelder Award Committee (2020) and ACRL’s EBSS Curriculum Materials Committee and EBSS Reference Sources and Services Committee.

Piper Cumbo joined Auburn University Libraries as instruction librarian.

Tara Douglas-Williams has joined the Emory Libraries as associate director of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library.

Maria Emerson is now student success librarian at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Library.

Clinton Fluker has been named curator of African American collections at Emory University’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library.

Anne Marie Hamilton-Brehm has joined Southern Illinois University-Carbondale as associate dean of library affairs directing the Special Collections Research Center of Morris Library.

Karina Soni has been appointed outreach projects librarian at the University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill University Libraries.

Retirements

Eleanor I. Cook, professor emerita at East Carolina University (ECU), has retired from the University of North Carolina (UNC) system after 40 years of service. She most recently served as interim head of the ECU Music Library while on phased retirement, but primarily served as assistant director for Discovery & Technology Services and assistant director for Collections & Technical Services while at ECU. Prior to coming to ECU in 2008, Cook served as serials librarian and assistant head of materials processing at Appalachian State University. From 1983 to 1989, she was the supervisor of serials cataloging at North Carolina State University. She started her library career as a student assistant and staff employee at UNC-Chapel Hill’s library Acquisitions Department and spent one year at Georgia Institute of Technology as a serials cataloger. Cook has served in several leadership roles within the profession. She was the president of UNC-Chapel Hill’s SILS Alumni Association (1991–92), president of NASIG (2002–03), and president of the North Carolina Preservation Consortium in (2006–07). Cook has been recognized by her peers for her mentorship and leadership. In 1999 she received the Significant Contribution Award from NCLA’s RTSS Section, the ABC-Clio Vicky Speck Memorial Leadership Award from the Charleston Conference in 2010, the Leadership in Acquisitions Award from the ALA ALCTS Acquisitions Section in 2011, and the Marilyn Miller Award for Professional Commitment award from the Women in Libraries Round Table of NCLA (2013).

Lori Goetsch, dean of the Kansas State University Libraries and executive vice-president, has retired. During her tenure as dean since August 2004, Goetsch has guided K-State Libraries through many challenges, most notably the May 2018 fire at Hale Library that led to the building’s closure for 15 months. Goetsch was tasked with overseeing the recovery process and then leading the planning and renovation to turn Hale into a next-generation library. Before coming to Kansas State University, Goetsch served as director of the public services division at the University of Maryland’s library; head of reference services and associate professor at the University of Tennessee; women’s studies bibliographer, librarian, and head librarian for information-reference at Michigan State University; and assistant reference librarian at the University of Illinois-Chicago. As a researcher, Goetsch’s published work covers a range of topics, including the importance of library safety and security, the impact of librarians on students, faculty, and staff and their accomplishment of the libraries’ missions, and the status of women in librarian positions in relevance to sex discrimination in employment. She also has been active in several professional organizations, including the board member of the Greater Western Library Alliance, State Library of Kansas, and the Emporia University School of Library and Information Management; ACRL president (2009–10) and also serving on its board; and an executive member of Humanities Kansas. Among Goetsch’s many honors are receiving a National/International Diversity in the Curriculum grant, Michigan State University Libraries Distinguished Librarian Award, and selection to the ACRL/Harvard Leadership Institute (2000).

David A. Wright has retired from his position as associate dean of learning resources at Surry Community College in North Carolina. A member of ALA/ACRL, Wright served as chair of the Community & Junior College Library section (2009–10) as well as several ACRL committees. He served as chair of the National Council of Learning Resources (2011–20). Prior to his tenure at Surry Community College, Wright served as library director at Mississippi College (1992–2006) and other academic libraries in Ohio and Tennessee.
