Rachael Elrod, head of the education library, has achieved tenure and promotion to associate university librarian at the University of Florida’s George A. Smathers Libraries.
Rebecca Jefferson, curator of the Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica in the Special and Area Studies Collections Department, has achieved promotion to university librarian at the University of Florida’s George A. Smathers Libraries.
John Nemmers, associate chair and head of collection services, curator of Architecture Archives and the Panama Canal Museum Collection in the Special and Area Studies Collections Department, has achieved promotion to university librarian for the George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida.
Flo Turcotte, literary collections archivist in the Special and Area Studies Collections Department, has achieved promotion to university librarian at the University of Florida’s George A. Smathers Libraries.
Retirements
Richard W. Clement has announced his retirement as the dean of the College of the University Libraries and Learning Sciences (ULLS), after six years at the University of New Mexico (UNM). During his time, Clement oversaw the growth of the college in a variety of ways such as the integration of University of New Mexico Press into ULLS, continued development and growth in the Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences program, the development of the South Campus Repository, and significant fundraising for ULLS. Clement is completing a career of 35 years in libraries, 20 of which have been in administration. Prior to UNM, Clement served as dean at Utah State University from 2008 to 2014. Prior to that he was at the University of Kansas for 22 years, eight as department head in Special Collections.

Deaths
Barbara Van Deventer, well-known in library circles from her careers at Stanford University and the University of Chicago, has died. Van Deventer joined the Stanford University Libraries in 1976 as personnel officer. She sequentially became government documents librarian, head of the Cubberley (Graduate School of Education) library, and Social Sciences curator, supervising other selectors collecting in social science disciplines. In 1988 she was hired by the University of Chicago as assistant director for collection development. During her 11 years at Chicago, her duties were expanded to include Public Services for Humanities and Social Sciences.
