In the News

Welcome to the September 2020 issue of C&RL News. ACRL President Jon E. Cawthorne starts out this month’s issue with a call to action for systemic change in his article “Mountains to climb: Leadership for sustainable change in scholarly communication.”

Elizabeth Hobart continues the focus on equity issues by analyzing the use of subject terms in cataloging records for recommended antiracist literature. Discover what she found about “Antiracism in the catalog.”

In this issue’s Perspectives on the Framework column, Karin Heffernan of Southern New Hampshire University examines the Framework for Information Literacy through an EDI lens in her article “Loaded questions.”

Selene Colburn focuses on accessibility and equity issues, providing a history of gender-free restrooms at the University of Vermont library in “Beyond the bathroom wars.”

At Penn State University, librarians launched an internal job bank to redistribute labor to projects in need of additional staff time during the recent shelter-in-place order. Leo S. Lo, Binky Lush, and Dace Freivaids write about the project in “Redistributing work during COVID-19.”

We also look back at the ACRL Together Wherever virtual event this issue. Many thanks to all the reporters who volunteered to write program summaries.

Make sure to check out the other features and departments this month, including a The Way I See It essay on “COVID-19, accessibility, and libraries” by JJ Pionke, information on ACRL’s 2021 awards program, and a look at the latest issue of College & Research Libraries
