The Academic Library Director: Management Activities and Effectiveness,by Joanne R. Euster (168 pages, November 1987), analyzes the contribution of the director’s personal leadership style and management skills to the successful operation of a college, university, or research library. Proposing a typology of library leaders, she presents detailed profiles of four primary leadership types—the “Energizer,” the “Sustainer,” the “Politician,” and the “Retiree.” Appendices contain study questionnaires and methodological notes.
