STOUT STATE UNIVERSITY, Menomonie, Wisconsin, seeks a candidate for the position of Acting Catalog Librarian (September 1969- August 1971). A cataloger with considerable experience is desired, to direct the work of the department while the regular department head is on leave. All new cataloging is in L.C.; conversion from Dewey is in process. Familiarity with MARC, and an interest in continuing and developing automation in progress, are required. The candidate must have a Master’s degree in library science. The position carries faculty status and perquisites, including excellent fringe benefits. The salary is on the academic year basis, with additional compensation at the same rate for summer session employment, which is customarily required. The salary will be appropriate to training and experience. Stout is a Wisconsin State University, specializing in industrial education, industrial technology, home economics, vocational education, and related fields. Present enrollment is 4,330. LIBRARIAN. Applications are invited for appointment as Librarian of the Tasmanian College of Advanced Education (T.C.A.E.) which is to be established in completely new facilities on Mount Nelson, three miles by freeway from the centre of Hobart, Tasmania. The College will present courses leading to professional employment, beginning in 1972 with Architecture, Business and Public Administration, Management, Music and Teacher Education and extending to Applied Sciences, the Creative Arts and Engineering in later years. Other courses being considered for 1972 include Librarianship, Vocational Writing, Legal Practice and Social Work. T.C.A.E. will be staffed and equipped to use the developing technology of education with emphasis on the use of available resource materials by both staff and students. The Librarian will be of Head of School status reporting directly to the Principal and taking an active part with him in determining policies for teaching to ensure effective use of resource materials. He will be required to establish the Resource Materials Centre providing information services by both conventional and novel techniques using printed material, audio-visual systems and other resources as they develop. He will also supervise and coordinate library activities in other colleges of advanced education in Tasmania. Essential qualifications are an appropriate first degree, associateship of the Library Association of Australia or its equivalent and wide experience in administration of academic libraries. A higher academic degree, a formal qualification in Educational Administration and experience in electronic storage and retrieval of information are desirable. The successful applicant will be required to take up his duties early in 1970. The salary is $11,000 p.a. Salaries in colleges of advanced education are currently under review. Technical Services

ASSISTANT SERIALS LIBRARIAN. Librarian II, step 4, $9,156. Open July 1, 1969. Assist in serials acquisition and resources development in the humanities and social sciences in a rapidly growing Serials Department, and head the bibliographic searching section of the department. Some reference work will be possible. The Serials Department is organized to provide all services relating to serials. A good technical-bibliographic background in serials, experience in acquisitions, and a subject specialty in one of the humanities or social sciences are highly desirable. All academic positions require graduate professional degree from ALA-accredited institutions or equivalent. ASSISTANT UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN, RESOURCES AND TECHNICAL SERVICES. Responsibilities: Administer collection development program and technical services principally for humanities and social sciences. Under the University Librarian’s general review, the Assistant University Librarian, Resources and Technical Services, bears primary responsibility for administration of collection development in the humanities and social sciences, including liaison with faculty and with Library readers’ services departments, assessment of collection weaknesses and acquisitions priorities and control of book and serials budgets; and for administration of a division consisting of two departments, Monographs and Serials. The Monographs department includes seven Librarians and sixteen FTE staff personnel, plus 6.86 FTE student assistance. The Serials Department includes three Librarians and fourteen FTE staff personnel, plus 5.16 FTE student assistance. Each department is responsible for collection development, acquisitions, cataloging and processing of materials in its area, as well as for provision of bibliographic service in subject specialties. Total 1969/70 book and serials budget for humanities and social sciences approximately $450,000. Participate with University Librarian and other Assistant University Librarians (Readers’ Services and Sciences) in overall Library planning and administration. Work with Systems Librarian in planning automation programs. Qualifications: Thorough command of scope and content of bibliography, acquisitions work, and cataloging. Strong academic background, preferably including graduate work in a humanities or social sciences discipline. Strong ability in budget and personnel administration; competence in organization of work and staff management. Experience should include at least 5 years of varied and increasingly responsible work in collection development and technical services with both monographs and serials, involving administrative duties. European language competence is highly desirable.
