ASIAN AND NORTH AFRICAN SUBSECTION
Area Library Program.The Asian and North African Subsection (Subject Specialists Section) of the Association of College and Research Libraries is preparing a program for the June meeting of the American Library Association in Dallas on, “The Area Library, Its Significance and Organization for Maximum Effectiveness.” Various aspects of this topic will be explored by representatives of three area libraries: Mr. Charles R. Bryant, Curator, Southeast Asia Collection, Yale University Library; Mr. Henry Scholberg, Librarian, Ames Library of South Asia, University of Minnesota; Mr. Weiying Wan, Head, Asia Library, University of Michigan. Each will discuss his own institution’s practices and make recommendations or propose solutions to problems as he sees them. This is intended as an initial step toward development of a body of information on organizational patterns and standards for area libraries.
