Ann-Christe Young

The Border Regional Library Association has announced its Executive Board officers for 2001—2002: President—Mary Duffy, University of Texas, El Paso; Vice Presi- dent/President Elect—Bill Lockhart, El Paso Public Library; Recording Secretary— Lisa Borden, University of Texas, El Paso; Treasurer—Sharon Amastae, Ysleta ISD, El Paso.

Appointments

Kathy Arsenaulthas been appointed director of the Poynter Library at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg. She was previously the library’s collection development librarian and served as interim director since 1999.

Anne Cilibertihas been named director of the David and Lorraine Cheng Library at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. Ciliberti, who had served as acting director of the library since September 2000, previously held the positions of associate director (June-September 2000), head of collection development (1992-00), associate director for reader services (1980-87), head of reference (1977-80), and reference librarian (1976-77). From 1990 to 1992, Ciliberti served as executive director of the Bergen-Passaic Regional Library Cooperative. She was instrumental in the creation of VALE (Virtual Library Academic Environment), a statewide consortium of 49 institutions of higher education that creates a network of access to shared electronic information resources. She is the author of articles for such scholarly publications as the Journal of Academic Librarianship, and she has been the principal author of several grants from the New Jersey State Library. Ciliberti received the 1999 Distinguished Service Award from the College and University Section of the New Jersey Library Association.

Jose-Marie Griffithshas been appointed to the Doreen E. Boyce Chair of Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh.

James Nealhas been appointed vice president for information services and university librarian at Columbia University. In addition to his tenure as dean of the Johns Hopkins libraries (1998-01), Sheridan Director of Milton S. Eisenhower Libraiy (1995-01), and dean of the University Libraries at Indiana University (1989-95), Neal has held administrative positions in the libraries at Pennsylvania State, Notre Dame, and the City University of New York. He has represented the American library community in testimony on copyright matters before congressional committees and was an advisor to the U.S. delegation at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) diplomatic conference on copyright. He serves on copyright policy and advisory groups for Johns Hopkins, ALA, Association of Research Libraries, American Association of Universities, and the International Federation of Library Associations. Neal also has served on the Council and Executive Board of ALA; was president of the Association of Research Libraries; was chair of OCLC’s Research Library Advisory Council (1997-98); and was selected as ACRL’s Academic Research Librarian of the Year (1997).

Bernard F. Reilly Jr.has been appointed president of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) in Chicago. Reilly had been director of research and access at the Chicago Historical Society since 1997. From 1987 to 1997, Reilly was head curator in the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division. His most recent publication includes The Haymarket Affair Digital Collection, an online digital collection at http:// www.chicagohistory.org/ hade. Reilly has been a vocal advocate for the development and pres- ervation of scholarly re- sources, serving as a member of the joint American Council of Learned Societies/ Council on Library and Informations Resources (CLIR) 1998 Task Force on the Digitization of Scholarly Materials, and as co-organizer of the October 2000 conference on museum and library digital collections policy sponsored by the Institute for Museum and Library Services and CLIR. CRL is an international not-for-profit consortium of colleges, universities, and libraries that holds and makes available scholarly resources to scholars, students, and other patrons of its member institutions.

Bernard F. Reilly Jr

Nancy Rodererhas been appointed interim director of the Sheridan Libraries and interim dean of university libraries at Johns Hopkins University. She has been director of the Johns Hopkins Welch Medical Library since 1999 and will retain that position until the director’s position is filled. Before joining Hopkins, she coordinated the National Library of Medicine’s postgraduate training program for medical librarians. Prior to that, Roderer was director of the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library at Yale University.

Arne Almquisthas been appointed associate provost for library services at Northern Kentucky University.

Pamela Andersonhas been appointed cataloging librarian at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky.

Rick Andersonhas been appointed director of resource acquisition for the University of Nevada, Reno Libraries.

Gregg T. Atkinshas been named dean of learning resources at Sacramento City College.

Melissa Castis now reference and education librarian in the University Library at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Lauren Corbetthas accepted the position of Acquisitions Team leader for the General Libraries of Emory University.

Mary Anne Corrierhas been named deputy director of the Branch Libraries for the New York Public Library.

Lincoln Cushingis now electronic outreach librarian in the Institute of Industrial Relations Library at the University of California, Berkeley.

Frank Dalrympleis the new Miller Nichols Library Humanities reference librarian at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Libraries.

Aaron Dobbsis now network services librarian at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Kathy A. Dobdahas been appointed education librarian at the Cleveland State University Library.

Kim Dorityis now executive vice president of content development and operations for Jones e-global library, Inc.

Kebede Gessessehas accepted the position of head of the Biological and Environmental Sciences Library in the Duke University Libraries.

Karen Gracyhas joined the Department of Library and Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh as an assistant professor.

Sean Hoganis now instruction librarian at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Brian Hubnerhas been appointed acquisition and access archivist at the University of Manitoba Libraries in Winnepeg, Manitoba.

Rob Withershas been appointed assistant to the dean and university librarian at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Retirements

Lynn Porterhas retired after 19 years as a reference librarian at North Harris College in Houston, Texas. She will continue with the library as an adjunct.

Linda Viskhas retired form the General Libraries of Emory University after 35 years as a cataloger, serials cataloger, and special collections cataloger. ■
