In the News

“Every Librarian a Leader” was clearly the theme of ACRL’s many programs offered at the ALA Annual Conference in New York. Then- president Patricia Senn Breivik’s program trilogy was given a dynamic start by consultant Dadie Perlov, who debunked myths about leadership and encouraged participants to find their leadership styles. Reports of this and other ACRL programs begin on page 488.

This issue also contains a report of the recent actions of the ACRL Board of Directors (page 500) as well as a call for nominations for the 1997 ACRL awards program (page 511). Do take the time to nominate a colleague for recognition or apply for an ACRL award yourself.

September marks two important events for C&RL News: 1) the beginning of a yearlong celebration of its 30th anniversary, and 2) the launch of a new Web site.

C&RL Newsbegan life in March 1966 as ACRL News, a supplement to College & Research Libraries. In January 1967, C&RL News was published as a separate entity. The C&RL News Editorial Board and I have developed a yearlong celebration of this 30-year anniversary. Editorial Board chair Pam Snelson shares the details and a bit of C&RL News history on page 512. As part of the celebration we will feature a prominent librarian each month. We begin with a remembrance of Keyes Metcalf on page 531 - Beginning this month, C&RL NewsNet, the abridged version of C&RL News posted on the Internet, launches its own homepage. Now that C&RL NewsNet is on the Web, we can offer you the convenience of hotlinks directly from the Internet resources article and “Internet Reviews” column to the sites reviewed. We hope you’ll enjoy this new feature. We will continue our practice of loading the new information on the Web a few weeks before the printed magazine reaches you.
