Getting published in scholarly journals is a necessity for many academic and research librarians, but the process of getting started and taking first steps in this arena can be daunting. “Tips for getting published in scholarly journals” offers useful information on how to familiarize yourself with scholarly publication in the field, improve your writing, and gain writing experience.
Another sometimes daunting experience is that of conducting research using grey literature. This month’s Internet Resources column provides an array of Web sites and discussion lists that can make this task a little easier.
The Partnerships and Connections article illustrates how the library can build relationships and its reputation on campus through participation in a campus-wide “One Book, One Community” initiative. Winston Salem-State University’s library initiated bringing the concept to its campus this year and has found that the program lias strengthened awareness of the library throughout the campus community.
The Way I See It offers advice on how to break through the language barrier between librarians and students in the library by reducing the use of library lingo and educating students on the terminology they need to know.
