Commission and CLR merge
The Commission on Preservation and Access and the Council on Library Resources (CLR) will officially merge on July 1, 1997. Until that time, the two organizations will operate pro tempore as a merged organization. The legal documents necessary to finalize the restructuring, plus the new name and mission statement will be drawn up by April 1997. The new organization will continue to be active in all former program areas: leadership, digital libraries, economics of information, preservation and access, international initiatives, and discussions with scholars. Stanley Chodorow will serve as chairman, Marilyn Gell Mason as vice-chairman, David B. Gracy II as secretary, and Dan Tonkery as treasurer.
Preservation meetings at Midwinter
There will be a number of Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS) meetings during the ALA Midwinter Meeting, and because it is taking place in Washington, D.C., many will be held at the Library of Congress. In particular, the Preservation Administrators Discussion Group (PADG) will hold its meeting on Friday, February 14, 2:00-5:30 p.m. in the Mumford Room at LC. Everyone with an interest in preservation administration is invited to attend. For more information about the PADG meeting, contact either John Dean, Cornell University, jfd5@cornell.edu, or Winston Atkins, North Carolina State University, winston_atkins @nscu.edu. For times and locations of other meetings, consult the official ALA schedule or AN2, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services’ (ALCTS) electronic newsletter.
