Sarbjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as a new university librarian at the Punjab Agricul- tural University, Ludhiana, Punjab, India.

Sandhu comes to Punjab Agricultural University from Cal- ifornia State University,

Chico, where he was an associate librarian. He started his academic li- brary career at Califor- nia State University as an assistant science li- brarian and was pro- moted to an associate librarian’s position in a short time.

Sandhu is a graduate of the Punjab Agricultural University at Ludhiana with a B.Sc. (Agri) degree in agricultural botany and an M.Sc. (Agri) degree in plant breeding. He also holds an M.S. degree in horticulture from Kansas State Univer- sity, Manhattan, and an MLS degree in academic librarianship from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas.

Malcolm H. Forbes, University of Evansville vice-president for academic affairs, has announced' the appointment of Donald W. Lacock as dean of learning resources.

A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Lacock attended the University of Dubuque in 1949. After spending time in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to college in 1960. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa. In 1971, Lacock received his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Nebraska, and in 1977 he received a second master’s degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin.

Lacock comes to UE from the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point, where he taught courses in two-dimensional design, elementary art methods, and basic audiovisual techniques. He also served as instructional development coordinator at the University of Wisconsin.

Publications by Lacock include “Visual Literacy and the Library Media Learning Resource Center,” Wisconsin Library Bulletin, July/August, 1976. He was the illustrator for A Basic Course in Manual Communication published by the National Association of the Deaf, Washington, D.C.

Lacock has also designed and produced a multimedia program entitled “A Visual Literacy Experience.” This program consists of 160 slides, a 32-page booklet, audience participation sheets, and a programmed audio tape. Other slide-tape presentations of similar nature are “Body Talk,” "Computers, Then and Now,” and materials for gifted education entitled “Naturally Gifted.”

Since 1971, Lacock has served as chancellor’s representative to the Wisconsin System Media Council for the development and sharing of newer trends in media development, production, and utilization. He has also given numerous presentations at association meetings and workshops throughout the nation.

Jean A. Major has been named director of li- braries at Northern Illinois University, effective September 1. Before coming to Northern Illinois,

Major was a doctoral student in the Graduate Library School of In- diana University and was admitted to candi- dacy in August 1978.

She has held appoint- ments in several other academic libraries, in- cluding the position of head of undergraduate libraries at Ohio State University Libraries, Columbus. She held the position of associate reference librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign prior to moving to Ohio State.

Major holds an undergraduate degree from Lake Forest College and a master's degree in library science from Rosary College. She is a member of the American Library Association, where she has served on the Committee on Instruction and Reference and Subscription Books Review Committee and has been a member of the Undergraduate Librarians Discussion Group.

At NIU, she will head a staff of 48 librarians, 88 operating staff employees, and 200 student employees, with an annual operating budget of about $2.8 million. NIU’s library collections, most of them in the recently opened $13 million Founders Memorial Library, currently include some 850,000 volumes and bound periodicals, 875.000 microform units, 540,000 publications, 24.000 recordings, and 8,500 periodicals.
