Deadlines:Orders for regular classified advertisements must reach the ACRL office on or before the second of the month preceding publication of the issue (e.g., September 2 for the October issue). Should this date fall on a weekend or holiday, ads will be accepted on the next business day. Late job listings will be accepted on a space-available basis after the second of the month.

Rates:Classified advertisements are $7.10 per line for institutions that are ACRL members, $9.00 for others. Late job notices are $17.25 per line for institutions that are ACRL members, $20.50 for others. Organizations submitting ads will be charged according to their membership status. Display ad rates range from $320 to $610 based upon size. Please call for sizes and rates.

Guidelines:For ads that list an application deadline, we suggest that date be no sooner than the 20th day of the month in which the notice appears (e.g., October 20 for the October issue). All job announcements should include a salary range per policy of the American Library Association (ALA). Job announcements will be edited to exclude discriminatory references. ACADEMIC LIBRARIAN.Geneva College’s McCartney Library invites applications for a faculty librarian with the rank of Assistant Professor. This tenure-track position would begin no later than August 1995. The library is seeking an outstanding librarian committed to Jesus Christ, to serving students and faculty, and to integrating personal faith in the practice of librarianship. ACCESS SERVICES LIBRARIAN.This is a tenure-track position within the library faculty. These recommendations are intended for governmental agencies that employ librarians. The recommendations are advisory only, and ALA has not adopted recommendations for minimum salaries. For information on librarian salaries, job seekers and employers should consider these recommended minimums, as well as other salary surveys (such as the survey in the October 15, 1989, issue of Library Journal, the ALA Survey of Librarian Salaries, the annual ARL Salary Survey, or the annual CUPA Administrative Compensation Survey) when evaluating professional vacancies. ELECTRONIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN.Develop and implement electronic information services. In collaboration with reference services librarians and departmental faculty, continue existing services of the Scholar’s Workstation and expand these “electronic branch library” services to other sites outside the library. Develop and present training sessions for librarians, students, and faculty on the use of electronic information resources. Develop and evaluate services that take advantage of new technologies, and facilitate the transition of those services that are incorporated into departmental routines, including the development of policies, procedures, and training programs. Provide scheduled reference desk service. As a member of the Networked Seevices Team, participate in planning for networking, electronic services, and cooperative library programs. ELECTRONIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN (two positions).The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for two positions of Electronic Services Librarian. These new tenure-track positions have been established to support the development of electronic, multimedia, and Internet services and resources in the University Library. The Electronic Services Librarians will serve as liaisons to the UIC faculty for electronic information, Internet resources, and the use of technology in teaching and research. Based in the Systems Department, the Electronic Services Librarians will work closely with the Collections Development Department and public services units as well as staff from the Computer Center. Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Manager of Library Systems (jointly with the Assistant University Librarian for the Health Sciences for sen/ices to the health sciences community), have responsibility for the identification, selection, creation, and development of electronic and multimedia resources supporting instruction, research, and patient care at UIC. Provide leadership in planning and managing electronic services responsible to the needs of the University Library staff and the UIC faculty. In coordination with Bibliographers, are the University Library liaisons to the UIC faculty for the Internet, including guidance on issues of copyright and intellectual property in the electronic environment. Manage day-to-day operations and public services of the Information Technology Arcade (and other similar facilities), including scheduling, multimedia development and evaluation, and consulting services. Advise library faculty and staff in instructional programs and participate in staff development. Serve as coordinators of Internet services, including instruction in locating, using, and developing dynamic resources on the Internet. Develop and manage electronic resources including Internet-based applications such as discussion groups, gophers, and WWW servers. Participate in librarywide committees and task forces as well as planning activities. Weekend and evening hours required. Minimum qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS and two years increasing experience with electronic information resources and services in a large research university library setting or other relevant experience; one position requires experience with health sciences resources and services. ELECTRONIC SERVICES/REFERENCE LIBRARIAN.The University of South Alabama seeks an individual to provide leadership in the utilization of electronic resources for the University Library’s Reference Department. Duties include the development, implementation, and maintenance of, instruction in, and evaluation of electronic services, including Internet, for faculty, staff, and students. This position reports to the Head of Reference Services and participates in all the activities of the Reference Department: staffing the reference desk (including some nights and weekends), library instruction, collection development, and online searching. Required qualifications are an ALA-accredited MLS and technical experience with electronic reference services including CD-ROMs, microcomputer hardware, a variety of operating systems, library applications, peripherals, and Internet resources and tools. He or she will demonstrate the ability to work with faculty, staff, and students in a collaborative and productive manner, exhibiting initiative, flexibility, and humor, as well as a commitment to public service goals and to the library profession. SOCIAL SCIENCES REFERENCE LIBRARIAN AND COORDINATOR OF GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS SERVICES.Position open at the University of Denver, Penrose Library. As one of five reference coordinators under the general direction of the Associate Director for Public Services, the librarian will engage in collection development and liaison activities to assigned social sciences departments. All reference librarians share in providing individual assistance at the general reference desk and participate fully in instruction programs for library use, research methods, online services, and mediated searching. As coordinator of government documents services, the librarian will develop, maintain, and promote services to showcase and enhance U.S. and international documents; will work with the systems librarian to provide access to digital resources; and will select documents, working with technical services staff responsible for acquisitions, cataloging, and processing. The University of Denver Penrose Library has participated in the GPO depository program since 1909 and is now receiving approximately 85% of the material. All Penrose librarians are members of the University of Denver faculty, participating actively in professional organizations; conducting research; writing for publication; and serving on committees. UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN.University of New Hampshire. The University Librarian is responsible for overall budgeting, developing collections, long-range planning of acquisitions, facilities, and library automation, all in a context of balancing traditional library services with emerging information and communications technologies. This position is a tenure-track member of the library faculty, who reports to the Provost, and actively participates in university governance as a member of the Dean’s Council and the Academic Senate. As chief information officer of the university, the University Librarian will work closely with the Executive Director for Computing and Information Services to develop and enhance the library’s access to and use of information in electronic formats. The University Librarian is also the principal advocate for the library and the representative of the library in long-term academic planning, budget development and the overall educational policy of the university. The university library consists of the main library, four branch libraries and a storage facility. The library has a recently installed Innopac system, networked and stand-alone CD-ROM workstations, Ethernet wiring and Internet connections in all buildings. Qualifications: An MLS from an ALA-accredited institution plus a second master’s (earned doctorate preferred); a strong record of scholarly and professional achievement; a minimum of five years of progressive responsibility and demonstrated success in academic/research library administration; strong management and creative leadership skills, with a commitment to the intellectual life of the university; broad knowledge of evolving information technologies and techniques in research, networks, and resources sharing; the ability to be an energetic advocate for the library both within and outside the the university; and a willingness to work collegially and to communicate effectively with other university officers, faculty staff, students, and the public; a willingness and ability to work in a unionized environment. Experience with the planning and construction of a new facility is desirable. Starting salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
