Robert G. Anderl
RobertG. Anderl is the new associate director for automation and coordinator for technical services at McFarlin Library, the University of Tulsa,
Oklahoma. The position has responsibility for designing and implementing a fully integrated automation system which will include online catalog, circulation, and acquisitions systems.
Anderl formerly worked in various positions at the Syracuse University Library, New York, and for the past 15 years as assistant director for technical services at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has edited several Nevada lists of serials and in 1978 edited the Intermountain Union List of Serials. Anderl was Nevada representative to the Mountain-Plains Library Association Board of Trustees in 1980-81, and in 1977 received a Nevada State Library Certificate of Merit and a Nevada Library Association Special Citation.
Darrell Jenkins
DarrellL. Jenkins has been appointed director of library services at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Jenkins has responsibility for ten departments and divisions within the university’s Morris Library.
Jenkins has been administrative services librarian at SIUC since 1977. Previously he was on the library staff at New Mexico State University (1972-77) where he served as head of the Reference Department, Education/Psychology Division librarian, and other positions in acquisitions, cataloging, and serials. Jenkins received his MLS from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s in public administration from New Mexico State University.
He has been active in professional associations including ALA, ASIS, and the New Mexico and Illinois Library Associations. He currently chairs the LAMA Library Organization and Management Section’s Planning and Evaluation of Library Services Committee.
Jenkins has contributed numerous articles to professional journals including the Journal of Library Administration and the Journal of Academic Librarianship.
RichardW. McCoy has been named president of the Research Libraries Group. He assumes his new post on January 17 at RLG’s central offices in Stanford, California. McCoy’s appointment concludes a four months’ nationwide search conducted by an international firm engaged to work with a search committee appointed by the Board of Governors.
McCoy comes to RLG with substantial expertise in the field of information systems and data processing management at the University of Wisconsin, in the Wisconsin state government, and in the federal government. Most recently he has served as director of the State Office of Information Systems Management in the Wisconsin Department of Administration, and in a staff assignment for the Secretary of that department.
His past appointments include: coordinator of computing activities, Office of Administration, Executive Office of the President of the United States; assistant to the Secretary, Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services; director of administrative data processing and director of academic computing at the University of Wisconsin.
McCoy holds bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in engineering, management, and applied computing from the University of Wisconsin.
Jacquelyn Morris
JacquelynM. Morris has been appointed associate director of libraries at the University of the Pacific, Stockton, California, effective August 15,
1982. She was formerly head of the Reference Division at the Albert R. Mann Library, Cornell University. Prior to her position at Cornell, Morris was coordinator of public services at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University School of Information Studies.
Morris has been active in ACRL, currently serving as chair of the Ad Hoc College Library Standards Committee. She is also chair of the Bibliographic Instruction Section’s Research Committee and ACRL liaison to the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Morris received her MLS from Syracuse University in 1972 and has authored several publications, including Library Searching: Resources and Strategies (co-authored with Elizabeth Elkins). She was awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship.
Donald R. Smith
DonaldR. Smith has been appointed associate director for public services and collection development at the University of Tulsa’s McFarlin Library. Formerly head education librarian at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Smith has extensive experience in microforms and related equipment, online literature searches, and database formation. His previous positions include library instruction librarian and general studies advisor at Southern Illinois University.
Smith holds master’s degrees in history and instructional technology from Southern Illinois University and an MLS from the University of Missouri. He has several professional publications to his credit, including the 1978 ERIC document, Newspaper Indexing Handbook for Small Libraries.
Louella Wetherbee
Louella Vine Wetherbeehas been appointed director of libraries at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, effective July 1, 1982.
Wetherbee earned both a bachelor’s (1967) and an MLS (1969) at the University of Texas, Austin. Her previous professional experience includes several positions at the AMIGOS Bibliographic Council where she served as associate director of member services (1978-1980) and assistant to the director (1977-78). Wetherbee also held several positions at the University of Texas including cataloger of the Latin American Collection (1970-1974), bibliographic control librarian (1974-1976), and Latin American projects coordinator (1976-1977).
She was principal o£ the Southwest Information Associates, a consulting firm (1976-1978) and has also consulted on library automation projects in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Venezuela. Wetherbee served as the executive secretary of the Seminar on Latin American Library Materials (1976-1977), and has contributed articles to The Serials Librarian and Revista Interamericana de Bibliotecologia. She is active in ALA and serves on its International Relations Committee.
Charlene Rennerhas been appointed assistant director for technical services at the Iowa State University Library, Ames, before coming to Iowa State, Renner was assistant director for automated reference service at the University of Illinois.
Renner began her career in the Serials Department at Ohio State University Libraries in 1959. After receiving her graduate degree from the Drexel Institute of Technology in 1964, she served as reference librarian and catalog librarian at the Free Library of Philadelphia. In 1965 she went to the University of Illinois where she has worked as cataloger, head of catalog maintenance, English language and literature librarian, and acting head of bibliographic records.
Renner was an academic library management intern at the University of California, Rerkeley in 1980-81.
PEOPLE IN THE NEWS
AnneK. Beaubien, manager and coordinator of the University of Michigan’s Michigan Information Transfer Source, has been honored by the Ann Arbor Business and Professional Woman’s Club as Ann Arbor’s Woman of the Year. The award, presented last fall by the mayor of Ann Arbor, cites Beaubien for “outstanding achievements and contributions, both professionally and personally.” Beaubien currently serves as chair of the ACRL Bibliographic Instruction Section’s Continuing Education Committee.
JohnC. Blair, Jr., head of computer applications at the Medical Sciences Library, Texas A&M University, College Station, has won the 1982 Data Courier Award for his article, “Creating Your Own Database,” in the August 1982 issue of Database. The article was selected for excellence in published papers on the online industry. A plaque and a check for $1,000 were presented to Blair by Data Courier president Loene Trubkin at the Online ’82 meeting in Atlanta on November 2. Blair also writes a regular column on microcomputers in Online magazine entitled “Micro Magic.”
ElinorM. Hashim has been named by President Reagan as chairman of the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS). She was sworn in at the Connecticut State Library, Hartford, on November 18 by Judge Raymond E. Baldwin. Hashim currently serves as supervisor of Reference and Technical Services at the Perkin-
Elmer Corporate Library, Norwalk, Connecticut. Her term of office on the Commission expires in July, 1986.
David Kaser,professor of library and information science at Indiana University, recently traveled to Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Taiwan to consult on the design of academic library buildings.

RETIREMENTS
JohnB. Blake, chief of the National Library of Medicine’s History of Medicine Division, Bethesda, Maryland, for 21 years, retired in October, having received the NLM Board of Regents Award for Scholarly or Technical Achievement.
Beth Boukidisretired on August 31 as librarian of the Curriculum Collection at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, after 19 years of service.
Anastasija Cakstehas retired as the librarian of the Physics-Electrical Engineering Library, Northeastern University, Boston, which she organized in 1965.
AlhertM. Donley has retired as associate director of Northeastern University Libraries, Boston, where he had served for nearly 30 years.
Barrara Greener,who has been on the staff of the Queens College Library, Flushing, New York, since 1950, recently retired as music librarian.
DEATHS
Scott Adams,deputy director of the National Library of Medicine from 1960 to 1969, died in Louisville, Kentucky, on October 3. He had previously served as chief of the Army Medical Library’s acquisition division; librarian of the National Institutes of Health; and director of the Foreign Science Information Program of the National Science Foundation.
HarlanC. Brown, former director of the D.H. Hill Library, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, died on October 10. Brown became director of the library in 1939 and retired in 1971 as the library’s associate director.
Mary Lois Bull,former University of Illinois personnel librarian, died in Urbana on October 30. She received her bachelor of science degree from Central Missouri University and her MLS from the University of Illinois. In 1927 she joined the University of Illinois Library as assistant to the library director. In 1951 she was named personnel librarian, a position she held until her retirement in 1967. In 1969 she returned to the library to help piece together 15,000 partially destroyed catalog cards.
Her collection of cartoons about libraries and librarians was displayed at the University of Illinois Urbana and Chicago campuses some time ago and will be donated to the university library.
Priscilla McGuire Pereira,humanities and education reference librarian at the Library of the Graduate School and University Center, City University of New York, since 1969, died suddenly on November 8.
