ACRL Officers for 1974/75

H. William Axford

Louise Giles

H. William Axford, university librarian at the University of Oregon, will serve as president of the Association of College and Research Libraries for 1974/75. As president of ACRL, Axford serves as chairman of the ACRL Executive Committee, of the ACRL Board of Directors, and of the ACRL Conference Program Planning Committee for the 1975 Annual Conference in San Francisco. He also serves as a member of the Choice Editorial Board and as an ex-officio member of the ACRL Planning Committee and of all units of ACRL. In addition, he will represent ACRL and ALA to other educational and professional organizations.

Axford’s previous service to ACRL and ALA includes chairmanship of the ACRL Committee on Standards and Accreditation and membership on the College & Research Libraries Editorial Board and on the ACRL University Libraries Section Urban Universities Library Committee. Axford has also been active in ALA’s Resources and Technical Services Division.

The newly elected vice-president and president-elect of ACRL is Louise Giles, dean of learning resources at Macomb County Community College, in Warren, Michigan. In the recent elections, Giles received 1,881 votes. James O. Wallace, director of learning resources at San Antonio College, in Texas, received 1,452 votes.

During her recent term as vice-chairman and chairman of ACRL’s Community and Junior College Libraries Section, Giles served as a member of the ACRL Board of Directors and of the ACRL Conference Program Planning Committee for the 1974 Conference in New York. In the past, she has served as an ACRL representative to the AAJC/ACRL Joint Committee on Junior College Libraries, as a member of the ALA Audiovisual Committee, and as chairman of the ISAD Discussion Group on Information Technology. In 1972, she was elected to serve on the ALA Council.

As vice-president of ACRL, Giles will serve as a member of the ACRL Executive Committee and as an officer on the ACRL Board of Directors. She will chair the ACRL Planning Committee and the ACRL Conference Program Planning Committee for the 1976 Annual Conference in Chicago. Giles will represent ACRL on the ALA Budget Assembly and on the ALA Chicago Conference Planning Committee. At the close of the 1975 Conference in San Francisco, Giles will become ACRL’s thirty-seventh president.
