In the news

—Mary Ellen K. Davis Editor-in-chief, medavis@ala.org

As you begin your new academic year, so too, does ACRL ramp up for its new program year. ACRL President Betsy Wilson is focussing on “community and collaboration,” and she kicks off a yearlong series of articles on this theme on page 698. Betsy reminds us that the lone American hero/heroine should no longer be our ideal; rather we should be striving for collaborative leadership.

ACRL members are also hard at work developing programs for the ACRL National Conference in Denver, March 15-18, 2001. Read about the exciting lineup of keynote speakers selected (page 695) and begin planning your Denver travels with the “desktop travelogue” provided by Ellen Greenblatt (page 691). Registration for the conference will begin on the ACRL Web site in mid-September.

With this issue I’d like to welcome Joni Roberts and Carol Drost of Willamette University to the pages of C&RL News as the new editors of the “Internet Reviews” column. Joni and Carol have both enjoyed writing for a variety of publications and we are excited to have the chance to put their talents to work for C&RL News. I know they are eager to work with you, so let them know if you have a resource you’d like to suggest for review.

This issue includes a variety of ACRL business: a report on the Board of Directors’ actions (page 678), draft revisions of a standard and guideline (page 704), and a call for nominations/applications for ACRL’s many awards (page 702). Take a moment to nominate a deserving colleague for an ACRL award.
