PROFILE
Pearce S. Grove, library director at Eastern New Mexico University, Portales, has been appointed director of libraries at Western Illinois University, Macomb, succeeding Donald S. MacVean. Since Grove goes to Macomb at a time when Western Illinois is completing plans for a new $10 million library building and when a new president is committed to a strong library program, he is likely to continue a record of achievement which includes special attention to making the academic library an effective part of the educational program. His work in nonprint media resulted in the recent publication of Nonprint Media in Academic Libraries (ACRL Publications in Librarianship no. 34) and earlier, with Evelyn Clement, Bibliographic Control of Nonprint Media (ALA, 1972). Just prior to his departure from Eastern New Mexico, the University of New Mexico Press published his New Mexico Newspapers; A Comprehensive Guide to Bibliographic Entries and Locations, and ENMU itself published his Native American Studies.
Pearce S. Grove
Mr. Grove, a native of Georgia, received his B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Florida, and his M.S. in L.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1958. He has been, successively, assistant education, philosophy, and psychology librarian at Illinois (1958-60); acquisitions and serials librarian, University of Illinois at Chicago (1960-61); librarian, Colorado Woman’s College (1961-64); assistant director, Kansas State University (1964-66); and, since 1966, library director, chairman of the Department of Library Science, and associate professor at Eastern New Mexico University. During his period as librarian of Colorado Woman’s College he planned the new library building and he has recently been responsible for the completion of an addition to the library at ENMU.
Active in a host of civic and library associations, Pearce Grove has served as president of the Southwestern Library Association, 1973-75, which he helped revitalize, and the Portales Ki- wanis Club. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1974 as a lieutenant commander. His energies on the state level included participa tion in the successful campaign to secure passage of a $10 million bond issue to upgrade library resources in the state-supported colleges and universities in New Mexico over a ten-year period.
Library cooperation has received considerable attention from him and he is executive secretary of the Southwest Academic Library Consortium and serves on the Automated Bibliographic Network Committee for the Inter- University Council/Ohio College Library Center Project. He is editor of the fall 1975, Library Trends issue on “Regional Cooperative Endeavors.” On the national level he has had a number of assignments on ALA committees and served on the ALA Council, as well as served as a consultant to a number of libraries.

The Cradle oî American Libraries
When you visit Philadelphia for the Bicentennial, you’ll be sure to see Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
But did you know that the Hall also housed from 1740 to 1773 the Library Company, the colonies first subscription library? Although the Company’s share-holders paid expenses, any "civil gentleman” might use the books on the premises—a rule that made the Library Company an important information pool during that turbulent time.
Today the world information pool has turned into a flood. New ideas must be generated to channel relevant and current information to the professionals who need it. Just one block from Independence Hall is the Institute for Scientific Information, where were pioneering new methods for solving world
wide information problems. We hope you’ll use this opportunity to tour our facilities and see how CURRENT CONTENTS®, the SCIENCE CITATION INDEX® and a variety of other information services are produced.
At ISI®you’ll view an orientation film, take a guided tour through important work areas, and get a chance to ask ISI personnel about our operations and services.
ISI tours start at 2 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday (except holidays)? Because the number of places on each tour must be limited, tours will be run on a reservation only basis.
Avoid disappointment —make your reservations now. Use the coupon or phone Jean Sprissler at ISI. ©wsisi
