• Africana Directions is a new series of guides to be issued irregularly by the African Section of the Library of Congress. The guides will consist of brief bibliographies, reading lists, or reference aids on topics of current interest. The first issue is a 14-page list of references entitled Recent Afro-Libyan Relations, compiled by Joanne M. Zellers, which includes 105 entries and a map. • A Citizen’s Guide to Changes in Human Services Programs‚ edited by Julie M. Sugarman (111 pages, September 1981), describes in considerable detail how the U.S. Congress responded to many dramatic changes in human services legislation and appropriations. An appendix provides a comprehensive catalog of over 250 program changes resulting from the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981. • A Directory of Courses on Indexing in Canada and the United States, by James D. Anderson (2d edition, 147 pages, 1981), includes a course list, a list of textbooks, and a classification of indexing concepts and procedures. • Financing Online Services in Publicly Supported Libraries‚ by Mary Jo Lynch (55 pages, 1981), has been published by ALA’s Office for Research. This report carries the results of a survey conducted among subscribers to BRS, Lockheed, and SDC online services to determine how the services were financed. • Finding Answers to Copyright Questions: Guide to Publications on Copyright‚ compiled by the Government Relations Department of the National Audio-Visual Association (1981), emphasizes publications that deal with off-air copying, microcomputer programs, and software protection. • The Guide to Credit by Examination (105 pages, 1981) summarizes examinations used in awarding credit for extra-institutional learning. The guide, produced by the American Council on Education s Office on Educational Credit and Credentials, details ACE’s test evaluation process and reviews the content validity and amount of credit recommended for test performance for such test series as CLEP, DANTES, and the Foreign Service Institute. • Internships and Job Exchanges (91 pages, November-December 1981), SPEC Kit #79, has been published by the Association of Research Libraries. The kit contains 26 documents illustrating guidelines, policies, forms, and program descriptions for internship and job exchange programs in ARL libraries. • Library Compensation Review is a new quarterly journal that analyzes current salaries and benefits for librarians and information specialists. Each issue of the review will summarize data taken from over 1,000 position advertisements in the previous quarter and will feature an in-depth analysis of such special topics as benefits, years of experience required, language and special education requirements, and urban versus non-urban salaries. • The Maine Union List of Serials (3d edition, 1981) has been published by the Fogler Library, University of Maine at Orono. This edition includes 14,500 titles and 35,500 holdings statements for 69 academic, public, and special libraries in Maine. • MULS, Third Edition (12 volumes, 1981), a regional union list of serials, has been published by MINITEX and the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Board. This edition contains over a half-million holdings for serials held in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. • The NASA Index‚ a subject index to astronomical publications of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration, has been published by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. • On-Line Services in Some Academic, Public and Special Libraries: A State-of-the-Art Report,by Marcy Murphy (24 pages, November 1981), has been published as Occasional Paper number 151 of the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science. The report describes the results of a survey of 309 libraries in 13 states that inquired about online reference services. • Re:sources(Vo1.1, no.l, Winter 1981), a quarterly environmental newspaper that provides background on ecological issues, access to environmental organizations, and in-depth bibliographic listings on a wide range of topics, including transportation (Winter 1982) and occupational health hazards (Spring 1982), is published by the Environmental Task Force.
