PROFILE

Effective the first of August, W. David Laird moved from his position of associate director of libraries at the University of Utah to university librarian at the University of Arizona.

His tenure at Utah from June of 1967 through July of 1972 covered a wide spectrum of duties primarily in the technical services area. He rose from monographs order librarian to acqui- sitions librarian to assistant director for technical services. In 1971 he became associate director of libraries.

While at the University of Utah he served the Utah Library Association on their Publications Council. He has also played a number of roles in ALA; he is now on the Resources and Technical Services Division organization committee, and was on ACRL’s appointments and nominations committee (1970-71). He currently holds a Council on Library Resources fellowship to investigate title-by-title access to microfilm collections in major United States academic libraries.

While the problems of a new director are many, one of the major problems, facing him as he begins at the University of Arizona will be the planning and construction of their new main library building. Though he did not assume his position until August, he became involved in the planning almost as soon as his appointment was approved.

Mrs. Frances Cablehas been appointed as assistant state services librarian in the Pennsylvania State University libraries, University Park, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. EthelS. Crockett is the newly appointed California State Librarian, Sacramento.

Mrs. Kuzuko M. Daileywas announced as the assistant chief librarian for Technical Services at the City College, City University of New York.

Ronald D. Frederickhas accepted an appointment as assistant reference librarian at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

Bonnie Frickhas joined the reference staff of the Earlham College library, Richmond, Indiana.

Mary Elizabeth Garviewas named librarian in the rare books department of the University of Toronto library, Ontario, Canada.

Ruth Gayhas become the new catalog librarian, subject cataloging division at the Yale University library.

Christopher J. Guleffwas appointed special services librarian at Indiana State University, Terre Haute.

JamesP. Hawks is the new reference librarian at the Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

Tsokan Huanghas joined the Indiana State University staff at Terre Haute as assistant reference librarian.

JohnW. Irwin was recently appointed special collections librarian at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff.

Mary Isbellhas assumed the duties of the assistant catalog reference librarian at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Susan Jacobsonhas been appointed acquisitions librarian for Yale University library.

Elizabeth Kellyhas accepted the position of assistant catalog librarian at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Michael J. LaCroixreceived an appointment to Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina as head, acquisitions department.

Mrs. JoanS. LeMosy has joined the staff of the Florida Institute of Technology library in Melbourne in the position of head of reference.

CarolynM. Leonard has assumed the position of acting serials librarian at Illinois State University, Normal.

Eudora Lohhas been named reference librarian in the Denison Library of the Honnold Library of the Carlemont Colleges, Claremont, California.

Mrs. Deborah Luckwas named cataloger for the Z. Smith Reynolds Library, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Ross McLachlan has joined the staff of the Yale University library as catalog librarian, descriptive cataloging division (rare books).

John Maniatishas been named catalog librarian, descriptive cataloging division (rare books) at the Yale University library.

Elizabeth Matthewshas been appointed medical cataloger at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

RussellE. Murphy, Jr. was appointed to the staff of the Medical Library as librarian I, Science Information Specialists at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

Anne O’Mahoneyhas assumed the position of assistant acquisitions librarian at New York City Community College, Brooklyn.
