Kaser Named ACRL President–Elect

Dr. Kaser

David Kaser was elected vice president and president-elect of ACRL and assumed the duties of the office at the close of the San Francisco Conference. Dr. Kaser has been director of the Joint University Libraries in Nashville since 1960. He began his career as a student assistant in Houghton College library, where he earned the baccalaureate degree in 1949. He received the MA in English from University of Notre Dame in 1950, the AMLS in 1952, and the PhD in library science from University of Michigan in 1956. During his years at Michigan he worked half-time in the order department of the library.

From 1952 to 1954 Dr. Kaser was serials librarian in Ball State University; from 1956 to 1959, chief of acquisitions in Washington University libraries, and in 1959-60, assistant director of Washington University libraries.

Dr. Kaser became a member of the ALA Council in 1965. He was chairman of the RTSD Acquisitions section in 1961; and was assistant editor of LRTS, 1958-62; chairman of ACRL University Libraries Section, 1962; and became editor of CRL in 1963. He has served as chairman of the South Eastern Library Association College and University Section (1964–66) and chairman of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (1966). He was editor of the Missouri Library Association Quarterly, 1958-60.

Dr. Kaser’s published works are Messrs. Carey & Lea of Philadelphia (1957); Washington University Manuscripts (with Jane Kaser, 1958); Directory of the St. Louis Book and Printing Trades to 1850 (1961); Joseph Charless, Printer in the Western Country (1963); editor, The Cost Book of Carey & Lea, 1825–1838 (1963); Directory of the Printing and Related Industries in Ante–Bellum Nashville (1966); Developmental Book Activities and Needs in the Republic of Korea (with S. A. Barnett, C. W. Stone, E. H. Michener, 1966); editor, Books in America’s Past, Essays Honoring Rudolph H. Gfelsness (1966). ■■
