JMRT AT SAN FRANCISCO

“The Widening Horizons of Librarianship” will be the title of Robert G. Vosper’s speech at the Orientation Session on Sunday, June 25, 2:00-4:00 p.m. during the 86th annual conference of ALA in San Francisco. Mr. Vosper is the immediate past president of ALA, and university librarian, University of California at Los Angeles.

The Orientation Session is sponsored annually by the Junior Members Round Table and the ALA Membership Committee for the purpose of informing new members and those persons attending their first conference about the activities of ALA. Following Mr. Vosper’s speech, round table discussions will be held, where resource persons, knowledgeable about ALA and the profession, will answer questions for persons attending their first conference.

The Junior Members Round Table is also sponsoring a trip to the Paul Masson Winery in Saratoga on Monday afternoon, June 26. Ruses will transport the participants along the skyline drive to the winery for a tour and dinner, followed by a talk on books, wine, and cooking. The speaker will be Ernest Mundt, professor of art, San Francisco State College. Cost of the tour and dinner is $7.50. Tickets are available by advance reservation from June R. Martin, Kanawha County Public Library, Charleston, West Virginia 25301. The tour is limited to 150 persons.

A JMRT hospitality suite, located at the Whitcomb Hotel, 1231 Market Street, San Francisco, will be provided for members of JMRT, with funds provided by the Exhibits Round Table. It is hoped that many other conference participants will drop by during the day. Coffee will be served every day from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The JMRT membership meeting will be held on Thursday, June 29, 4:30 p.m.

The Junior Members Round Table invites membership from any librarian who is a member of ALA and who either is not over 35 years of age, or has not served in the library profession more than five years. Library school students are also invited to participate in the JMRT activities.
