Cover Page
This month’s cover features a photograph of the Colorado River in Upper Granite Gorge, Grand Canyon, by Emery Clifford Kolb. Kolb opened a photography studio in Arizona with his brother Ellsworth in 1902 and began taking photographs of mule parties, landscapes, river adventures, and nearly every other dramatic scene and incident that occurred in the area. The brothers also made the first film of the area canyons in 1911. Emery Kolb continued photographing the Grand Canyon until his death in 1976.

The image is part of the Emery Kolb Collection, housed at the Northern Arizona University’s Cline Library. More information is available at http://library.nau.edu/speccoll /exhibits/daysofarchives/film.html.
