This month’s cover image is a glass plate negative titled “Women wading in Toluca Lake.” Taken in 1902, the photograph shows Grace Brigance and Edith (or possibly Ethel) Border standing in the murky water of Los Angeles, California, area lake.

The image is part of the Boynton Collection of Glass Negatives, located in the Special Collections of the Honnold/Mudd Library, a part of the Libraries of The Claremont Colleges, Claremont University Consortium. The collection captures aspects of life in Claremont and at Pomona College around the turn of the 20th century. As well as documenting local buildings and landscape, the collection presents a candid glimpse of Pomona College student life. More information on the collection is available at ccdl.libraries.claremont.edu/col/bce/.
