Appointments

Keith Gorman has been appointed head of the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and university archives at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG). Gorman was previously assistant head of special collections and university archives, and digital collections coordinator. Prior to joining UNCG, Gorman was executive director of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in Edgartown, Massachusetts and was assistant professor of History at Simmons College.

Leslie M. Haas is now the director of the university library and learning commons at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates.

Janice Jaguszewski is now director of the Health Sciences Libraries and associate university librarian for Health Sciences at the University of Minnesota Libraries.

Linda LoSchiavo has been appointed director of the Fordham University libraries, having served as interim director since July 2012. LoSchiavo joined Fordham University as a senior cataloger and, beginning in 1987, became head of a transformational initiative, the retrospective conversion project. As systems librarian from 1990 to 1991, LoSchiavo administered all automated library systems, as well as the circulation, acquisitions, and serials modules, and inaugurated a fully automated online library catalog at Fordham. In 1991, she was appointed assistant director of libraries and director of the Quinn Library. LoSchiavo spent more than a decade on the executive board of the Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization that acquires and administers information services for libraries at more than 900 institutions, including Fordham University.

Elaine Smyth has assumed the role of interim dean of Louisiana State University (LSU) Libraries. Smyth has worked with LSU Libraries since 1988, when she joined the faculty as the head of the libraries’ manuscripts processing unit. During her tenure with LSU Libraries, she has also served as curator and head of the special collections division and as interim assistant dean of libraries. She has served as assistant dean of libraries since July 2012. Prior to coming to LSU, Smyth worked in multiple capacities with Cornell University’s Olin Library.

Carla J. Stoffle, dean of university libraries and Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona (UA), has announced that she will be returning to the faculty on July 1. Stoffle joined UA as dean in 1991, and during her tenure has served as acting director of the Center for Creative Photography and the School of Information Resources and Library Science. In 2012 she won ALA’s Lippincott Award for innovative contributions to libraries and information science. Stoffle has published more than 60 articles and book chapters, and she has served in a wide range of national leadership roles. Those commitments have been recognized with several national and university awards: ALA’s Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award in 2002, ALA’s Equality Award in 2003, the Vision Award from the University of Arizona’s Commission on the Status of Women in 2010, UA’s Martin Luther King Distinguished Leadership Award in 1996, and ACRL’s Academic/Research Librarian of the Year Award in 1992. As acting director in 1999, she led the School of Information Resources and Library Science through the process of retaining its accreditation after financial problems had led to its being questioned by ALA. For her efforts, the Arizona Library Association selected Stoffle as Arizona Librarian of Year (2000–01). To lead the library through the transition from print to digital resources, Stoffle instituted a team-based approach that enabled librarians to establish online services and preserve traditional functions while managing the surging costs of digital resources.

Nico Carver has been appointed assistant librarian and coordinator, Student Multimedia Design Center Services, at the University of Delaware Library.

Amy Cooper-Cary has been appointed head of special collections and university archives at Marquette University Libraries.

Amedeo DeCara joined the Babson Library at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts as a reference librarian and the e-learning coordinator.

Bronwyn Dorhofer has been appointed access services and outreach librarian, Portland Library and Learning Commons, at the University of Oregon Libraries.

Margaret Dull is now cataloging and metadata librarian at the Goucher College Library.

Leatha Miles-Edmonson is now residency librarian at Marquette University Libraries.

Danielle Emerling has been appointed affiliate assistant librarian, Manuscripts and Archives Department, at the University of Delaware Library.

Erin Finnerty is now electronic resources librarian at Temple University Libraries.

Pamela Flinton is now associate librarian for research and user services at the Goucher College Library.

Rose Fortier has been named digital programs coordinator at Marquette University Libraries.

Elizabeth Gibes joined Marquette University Libraries as research and instruction librarian, supporting the department of English and the libraries’ Digital Media Studio.

Kayce Gill is now serials and electronic resources librarian at the Beaman Library at Lipscomb University.

Katie L. B. Henningsen has been appointed archivist and digital collections coordinator at the University of Puget Sound’s Collins Memorial Library.

Justin Hill has been appointed librarian for access services and resource sharing at Temple University Libraries.

Latanya Jenkins is the new government information and African American Studies librarian at Temple University Libraries.

Stephanie Kays has been appointed archivist for collections management at the University of Oregon Libraries.

Tammi Kim has been appointed affiliate assistant librarian, Manuscripts and Archives Department, at the University of Delaware Library.

Jessica Lydon has been appointed associate archivist for the Philadelphia Jewish Archives collections at the Special Collections Research Center of the Temple University Libraries.

L. Rebecca Johnson Melvin has been appointed head of the manuscripts and archives department and curator of the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Senatorial Papers at the University of Delaware Library.

Rebecca L. Mugridge has been appointed associate director for technical services and library systems for the University at Albany Libraries.

Robert Nunez is now Marquette University Libraries’ emerging technologies librarian.

Katy Rawdon has joined Temple University Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center as the coordinator of technical services.

Hilary L. Robbeloth has been named metadata and collection services librarian at the University of Puget Sound’s Collins Memorial Library.

Robin Chin Roemer is now instructional design and outreach services librarian for the reference and research services division of the University of Washington Libraries.

Jacqueline Sipes is the emerging technologies librarian and subject specialist for the College of Education at Temple University Libraries.

Barbara Tierney has been named head of research and information services at the University of Central Florida Libraries.

Julie Wright has been appointed undergraduate experience librarian at Kansas State University Libraries.

Emily Zegers has been appointed coordinator of marketing and outreach for Marquette University Libraries.

Retirements

Jennifer Cargill has retired from Louisiana State University (LSU) after more than 20 years of service as dean of libraries. Cargill played a leadership role in the development of the Louisiana Academic Libraries Information Network Consortium and the LOUIS consortium, which provides resources and services to libraries across the state. Both have had a positive impact on LSU and other academic and cultural heritage institutions in the state, and have been used as models around the country. Cargill helped to garner more than $3.5 million in grant funds needed to support those efforts. She also established the system of library liaisons that serves as the framework for the extensive library services now offered at LSU. Cargill is the author, coauthor, editor, or coeditor of 11 books, as well as numerous articles and book chapters. She has served on and chaired numerous ACRL committees, as well as in various regional and statewide professional organizations. In 1990, she was honored by LSU’s School of Library and Information Science as the Outstanding Alumna for the year, and she received the Louisiana Library Association’s Outstanding Academic Librarian Award in 1997.

Judith Olsen has retired from Villanova University’s Falvey Memorial Library. The Communication and Publications team leader, Olsen also served as the subject librarian liaison to the English and Theatre departments and the coordinator for that humanities liaison team. With University Librarian Joe Lucia, Olsen and other Communication team members assembled the successful application for 2013 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award conferred by ACRL and YBP Library Services. Olsen was a member of Falvey’s Management Policies Group and Resource Council, and served on the University Middle States Institutional Self-Study. She began her tenure at Falvey in 1988 as a reference librarian, moving from the readers’ services librarian position at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pennsylvania. Olsen was named leader of the new Communication and Publications team in 2006 although she’d been involved with library publications and communications efforts for many years. The Communication team publishes the Falvey homepage news blog and the print News From Falvey just two of several activities aimed at promoting the message of Falvey Memorial Library and the broader world of libraries as part of its overall mission. Olsen’s professional activities included ACRL’s Literatures in English section the ACRL Delaware Valley Chapter board the Modern Language Association and the Association of Library Communications and Outreach Professionals.
